Ratnagiri Estate

Situated near Bababudangiri in the South Indian Western Ghats, Ratnagiri Estate is a farm that's all about being eco-friendly. It has lush hills and has been around since 1927.

Owned by the Patre family, the farm focuses on farming in a way that's friendly to nature and on coming up with new ideas. The name 'Pearl Mountains' comes from the pretty Silver Oaks that cover the area and make the coffee and pepper crops even better.

Mr. Ashok Patre has been important in making Indian coffee known worldwide. With his clever farming methods, every green coffee bean is looked after carefully and packed in special bags to keep them fresh and full of flavour, just like the beautiful 'Pearl Mountains’ themselves.

Baarbara Estate

In the lovely Chikmagalur area, Baarbara Estate has been making great coffee for over a hundred years, run by the Indavara family. They're known for growing Shade-grown Selection 795 Arabica coffee beans, which are loved all over the world and get certifications for being grown sustainably and for their quality.

Besides coffee, they also grow black pepper and take really good care of their land. The estate is home to tigers, wild boars, and lots of birds, showing it's a balanced environment.

Since 1896, Baarbara Estate has been a big deal in India's coffee world, located in the famous Bababudangiri area of Karnataka. This special place, linked to the Sufi mystic Baba Budan, is where Indian coffee saw it’s onset. Sitting 5000 feet high in the misty Western Ghats, Baarbara Estate gives you a special experience from the farm to your cup. The soil is rich, and the misty weather helps grow top-quality Arabica beans. It's a mix of old traditions, history, and really good coffee.

Kerehaklu Estate

In thestunning landscapes of Chikmagalur, you'll find the Kerehaklu Estate,owned  by the Thipaiah family for fourgenerations. It covers about 275 acres and sits at a height of around 1200metres. Its name means 'shelter by the lake' in Kannada.

Here, coffeegrows alongside a variety of plants like wild fig, jungle mango, avocado,jackfruit, and pomelos. The estate grows different kinds of coffee beans, likeChandragiri, Selection 795, Selection 9, and Selection 6, along with Anokhi Liberica and Robusta.

AtKerehaklu Estate, they stick to traditional methods. Highlight being, they usedifferent ways to process the coffee beans, like washing, natural drying, andsun-drying with honey, to bring out the unique flavours of their coffee.

Surrounded by coffee, tea, and spice plants, the estate is like a paradise for different kinds of plants and animals. There are trees like areca, pepper, cocoa, and cardamom, which help the coffee plants grow well because of the good soil and clean spring water. That's what gives the coffee its special taste.

At Harley Estate, they stick to old-fashioned methods. They use spring water to wash and ferment the coffee beans to keep them pure. The beans are dried carefully on special beds and patios to make sure they're always top-quality, showing the estate's commitment to making great coffee and looking after the environment.

Amrutha Varshini Estate

A coffee farm that has been women-owned and operated in Aldur Hobli district of Chikmagalur, Karnataka.

More than the estate it is the story of Ms. Poornima Jairaj, a first-generation
coffee farmer with a rich professional background. She started as a programmer in banking, moved to venture capital, and later co-founded Amber Valley Residential School and SVGH Vocational College in Chikmagalur. In 2004, she bought Amrutha Varshini Estate, focusing on it full-time since 2022, guided by advisor Sunalini Menon.Ms. Jayaraj aims to strengthen ties with specialty roasters and possibly add a Rainforest Alliance certification.
